When I arrived in San Francisco in the early 1990's, the city of San Francisco had a profound influence on my life and was seminal to the further development of my artwork, not only in terms of technique and thematic content, but also with regard to my attitude towards the act of making art. The imagery in my work immediately began to focus on my newly rediscovered urban environment. One of the great strengths of my paintings is their ability to uncover what lies beneath the surface of my portraits.
